In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has played an increasingly crucial role across various sectors: from industrial design to content creation, and even predictive analytics applied to natural resource management. This transformation has also impacted the agrifood sector, where the integration of AI-based technologies is crucial to optimizing production processes, promoting sustainable growth, and enhancing competitiveness. The ability to analyze vast amounts of real-time data has become a key factor in addressing global agricultural challenges.

Beyond increasing productivity and reducing environmental impact, AI is also opening up new career opportunities, particularly for younger generations. Agricultural companies are now looking for specialized professionals who can combine technological expertise with sector-specific knowledge, allowing them to maximize the potential of data collection and analysis tools.

The adoption of AI solutions is revolutionizing the entire production cycle, from soil analysis to product distribution. Advanced sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) devices collect real-time information on crop conditions (humidity, temperature, soil chemical composition), which is then processed by machine learning algorithms capable of generating predictive models. These models enable farmers to develop targeted cultivation strategies, optimize irrigation, and minimize resource waste.

The digitalization of agricultural processes translates into more efficient resource management and increased productivity. For example, automated irrigation systems release exactly the necessary amount of water, while drones and robots monitor plant health, detecting early signs of stress or disease. This allows for careful planning of sowing, harvesting, and distribution times, preventing production surpluses or delays.

In this context, the program DTTI was developed as a specialized evolution of AI-ENTR4YOUTH, later expanded through a partnership with EIT Food. DTTI focuses specifically on AI applications in the agrifood sector, equipping students with key skills to tackle the challenges of smart agriculture.

DTTI is a more streamlined and targeted initiative, spanning 30 hours, designed to provide students with a concrete introduction to the potential of AI in the agrifood industry. The programme includes hands-on learning modules, enabling students to work on innovative solutions for crop management, resource optimization, and food waste reduction.

DTTI involves teachers as key stakeholders, allowing them to shape the educational content according to regional and sector-specific needs. Additionally, partnerships with AI experts and agrifood professionals offer students the opportunity to engage with real-world industry challenges and innovative business models.

AI is creating new career paths in the agrifood sector, driving demand for hybrid professionals such as digital agronomists or blockchain experts for food traceability. These roles require a combination of scientific, technological, and economic expertise, essential for a more efficient and sustainable agriculture.

DTTI represents an innovative educational model that not only prepares young people for the increasing convergence of technology and agriculture but also provides teachers with effective tools to integrate AI into school curricula.

Thanks to the collaboration between schools, businesses, and institutions, DTTI demonstrates how education can be modernized, made more inclusive, and aligned with labor market demands.

Encouraging strategic partnerships between public institutions, private enterprises, and the education sector is essential to fully unlocking the potential of AI in agriculture. Young people, in particular, have the chance to lead this transformation, leveraging AI to build a future that is more sustainable, efficient, and competitive.
