From Davos to the Next Generation: A Call for Youth Involvement in the Intelligent Age

As global leaders from business, policy and the civil society gather this week at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos, we must ensure that the next generation is fully involved in shaping our global future. At JA Europe, we believe that involving youth in high-level discussions is not just beneficial—it’s essential for addressing the complex challenges our world faces today, especially as we enter this new era of rapid technological advancement and economic transformation.

The recently released WEF Future of Jobs Report 2025 highlights the dramatic shifts occurring in the global labor market. By 2030, we can expect to see 170 million new jobs created, offset by the displacement of 92 million roles, resulting in a net increase of 78 million jobs. This transformation is driven by technological changes, the green transition, demographic shifts, and economic factors, reshaping industries and professions worldwide.

Why Youth Voices Matter More Than Ever

In this rapidly evolving landscape, young people bring fresh perspectives and innovative solutions to the table. They are not just leaders of tomorrow; they are changemakers today, driving social impact through grassroots initiatives and entrepreneurial ventures. Their insights are crucial as we navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by the Intelligent Age.

The Future of Jobs Report 2025 identifies the skills gap as the most significant barrier to business transformation, with nearly 40% of skills required on the job set to change by 2030.

This underscores the urgent need for collaboration between business leaders, policymakers, and educational institutions to prepare the next generation for the jobs of the future.

A Call to Action for Davos 2025

To business and policy leaders attending Davos, we urge you to:

  1. Actively Involve Young People: Create meaningful opportunities for youth participation in shaping the Intelligent Age.
  2. Prioritize Skills Development: Invest in programs that equip young people with the skills highlighted in the Future of Jobs Report, such as AI, big data, and creative thinking.
  3. Foster Intergenerational Dialogue: Create platforms for young leaders to engage directly with established policymakers and business executives on topics like the green transition and technological advancements.
  4. Promote Inclusive Growth: Ensure that the benefits of the Intelligent Age are distributed equitably, addressing potential disparities highlighted in the Future of Jobs Report.
  5. Support Youth-Led Initiatives: Allocate resources to scale up innovative projects spearheaded by young entrepreneurs, especially those addressing the challenges and opportunities of the Intelligent Age.

The JA Europe Perspective

Reskilling, digital access, and equity in education are critical to ensuring young people are ready for a rapidly changing world.

At JA Europe, we’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of youth engagement. Our programmes have empowered countless young individuals to develop entrepreneurial skills, innovative mindsets, and a deep understanding of global issues. We believe that by bringing these young leaders to Davos in the future, we can inject new energy and ideas into the global dialogue on collaboration in the Intelligent Age.

Today we are launching a new European media offer for young Europeans to participate in democratic debate through journalistic content creation and debate, #PulseZ! We aim to create a vibrant online community that is feeling Europe’s Gen Z pulse on hot topics that matter to them and to strengthen Europe’s voice in digital democracy and online media platforms.

For everyone believing in the need to invest into education, employment and entrepreneurship: Gen-E European Entrepreneurship Festival gathers youth from over 40 countries in Europe for a showcase and competition of their entrepreneurial potential. It is the place for every young person to imagine their future as they dream it and to “Trace Your Path Forward”.

As JA Europe engages with leaders in Davos, our key message will be: bring young people to the table and make their voices heard!
