Alicia Barbas

Project Communications Senior Associate

Alicia works on communications at JA Europe, supporting EU-funded projects that bring together organisations and young people across Europe.

She previously worked on EU-funded Horizon 2020 projects at the Jacques Delors Institute in Paris, where she led communications and policy outreach with a focus on citizen participation, particularly engaging young people on the social aspects of the green transition. Her experience also includes strategic communications roles with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) in Washington, D.C., as well as work with ATD Fourth World in France on initiatives addressing global poverty. She also contributed to international education programmes at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She most recently worked in education at an international school in Italy, where she implemented literacy initiatives and taught a range of subjects.

At JA Europe, she combines her passions for storytelling, cross-cultural collaboration, and youth empowerment. She believes that meaningful communication plays a key role in fostering empathy, connection, and impact.

Alicia is a U.S. Fulbright Scholar and holds a Master’s degree in European and International Studies from CY Cergy Paris Université and a Bachelor’s degree in International Communication, French, and Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a native English and Spanish speaker and is also fluent in French and Italian. In her free time, she enjoys making music, reading, and learning new languages.
