Freelance Journalist

Position overview: We are seeking a dynamic and driven Journalist to lead the development and execution of innovative communication strategies aimed at empowering young people across Europe to engage with critical social and political issues. The role focuses on fostering youth-driven storytelling, journalistic initiatives, and content creation across multiple platforms. You will work closely with young creators, media professionals, and stakeholders to shape compelling narratives that inspire civic engagement, promote inclusivity, and amplify underrepresented voices.

Type of Contract: Part-time consultant contract (+/- 50%)

Location: Europe (Remote)

Availability: Immediately

Available Budget: Annual Gross Salary: 28,000 – 32,000 Euros/year based on experience, location and contractual arrangements

Deadline: Rolling basis until filling the position

Period: Initial contract of 18 months, subject to renewal

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and driven Journalist to lead the development and execution of innovative communication strategies aimed at empowering young people across Europe to engage with critical social and political issues. The role focuses on fostering youth-driven storytelling, journalistic initiatives, and content creation across multiple platforms. You will work closely with young creators, media professionals, and stakeholders to shape compelling narratives that inspire civic engagement, promote inclusivity, and amplify underrepresented voices.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications & Content Development

· Develop and implement multi-channel communication strategies tailored to young European audiences.

· Lead the creation, editing, and distribution of compelling content, including articles, videos, and social media campaigns.

· Collaborate with partner organizations, media outlets, and young creators to ensure consistent messaging and impactful storytelling.

Media Relations & Public Engagement

· Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media platforms, and influencers to increase content visibility.

· Organize press briefings, media events, and public campaigns to drive engagement and build brand awareness.

· Respond to media inquiries and manage public messaging on key project topics.

Training & Mentorship

· Design and deliver training workshops on content creation, journalistic practices, and multimedia storytelling.

· Provide editorial guidance and constructive feedback to young contributors, helping them grow as independent creators.

· Foster a supportive, inclusive environment for creative development.

Project Management & Reporting

· Manage content calendars, production workflows, and project timelines to ensure timely and quality content delivery.

· Monitor communication metrics and audience engagement, adjusting strategies as needed.

· Prepare project updates, campaign reports, and impact assessments.

The Ideal Candidate:

· Journalistic Expertise: Proven experience in journalism, content creation, or media production, with a strong understanding of news cycles, storytelling, and multimedia platforms.

· Strategic Communicator: Ability to craft compelling narratives, adapt messaging across platforms, and align communication strategies with project goals.

· Media Savvy: Experienced in media relations, with a network of media contacts and a track record of securing press coverage.

· Youth Engagement: Passionate about youth empowerment and experienced in working with young people, fostering creativity, and guiding emerging talent.

· Multilingual & Inclusive: Comfortable working in a multicultural, multilingual environment, with a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion.

· Digital Proficiency: Skilled in managing social media platforms, digital campaigns, and analytics tools to optimize engagement.

· Mentorship & Training: Experienced in coaching, mentoring, and delivering capacity-building workshops.

· Collaborative Leader: Strong project management and team collaboration skills, capable of coordinating with partners, creators, and media professionals.
